Some embarrassments don’t shout. They just quietly burn.
Today’s came in the form of a notification.
A meeting started.
Sudden. Unplanned.
And I wasn’t at my laptop.
A few minutes later,
my name appeared in the group chat.
A simple call-out.
“Join.”
That was it.
No insult.
No accusation.
Just one word.
But it felt loud.
Because in that tiny moment,
it felt like everyone saw what I didn’t want them to see —
me not there.
Me not responding.
Me looking… inactive.
Even though there was a reason.
Even though it wasn’t intentional.
Still, that small spotlight felt harsh.
I joined, of course.
Acted normal.
Professional.
But inside?
I felt exposed.
It’s strange how quickly the mind spirals:
“They must think I’m slacking.”
“That looks bad.”
“Why didn’t I just stay near my laptop?”
Maybe no one thought that deeply about it.
Maybe it was just routine.
But to me, it felt like being singled out
under a quiet, digital glare.
Not anger.
Not resentment.
Just that uncomfortable awareness
of being seen at the wrong moment.
No confrontation.
No drama.
Just an honest dump.
Today’s mess. And that’s it. - MESSY E.
